Untersberg Peak at Daybreak
This was one of the last photos I took during my trip to Salzburg. Upon returning from one last dawn shoot around the city, I made my way south-west back to my hotel where packed bags awaited, when the soft hues of a slow sunrise crept over the mountains and created this pastel beauty ahead of me. Painted in a pinky palette that poured over the city and brushed the mountain range in the distance, it was a breath-taking scene that highlighted the almost incongruous setting of the city within the lap of the mountains.
Making the image all the more captivating was the indirect light of the sunshine. Behind me, the sun rose over the top of peaks looming out of shot, which served to gently illuminate the mountains ahead. Adding beautiful shading to the natural contours of the mountains along with the gorgeous blush of nature’s rouge, it created a truly beautiful moment. Full of both majesty and tranquillity, it captures the transition between light and dark in the valley and the serenity of the early dawn – brief in nature but lingering in memory.
