Machu Picchu
As one of the most majestic sites in Peru, if not the world, Machu Picchu was high on my list of locations to photograph. These ancient foundations are a huge attraction for tourists but this makes it difficult to capture a clear, quiet site.
I stayed in the town of Aguas Calientes the day before, planning a very early start to beat the crowds. Waking in darkness I got the bus up towards the site and made my way round to this elevated view looking down on the ruins.
Watching the sun rise in the mountains, I can say that Machu Picchu is a place that completely lives up to its glorified hype. Capturing the view before tourists descended, you can see how dynamic and detailed the location is. I waited for just the right moment when conditions had cleared but the crowds had not yet arrived, to capture details of stone, grass and forestry as the peak ascends up into the dense clouds.
