Derwentwater East Shore

from £30.00

This scene of the submerged gate and fence posts at Derwentwater is a popular one due to its proximity to the town of Keswick with its constant influx of visitors. Spending the day here, the sky remained overcast with little colour, and so I decided to use a neutral density filter that would capture the subtle shifting movements in the sky and give it some dramatic impact. The two juvenile trees in the foreground are blurred by the rustling movements of the leaves which emphasises the unsettled weather. Using the filter also smooths out the water which is given added breadth and depth by the receding fence posts. The changing colours of the leaves provide rusty gold highlights to the treelines as the steep hills loom in the background.

Derwentwater East Shore is my unique take on a popular location within the Lake District, working with the changeable weather conditions to bring out the best in the scenery.
